Most of us don’t realize that it is ok to install sod during the winter months. There are advantages to doing this as you will not use as much water and you will be getting a head start on establishing your lawn. Even though the sod is dormant it will still root although more slowly; however as the temperatures increase the sod will take off. Not all types of grass will be available during the winter, as most Zoysia grass types are only cut during the warmer months. Various Bermuda grasses and Zenith Zoysia are available now. If you have a project I would recommend Tif-Tuf Bermuda as this grass has great shade tolerance and only neeeds 4-5 hours of sun and excellent drought resistance.
The picture above shows a Tif-Tuf Bermuda sod installation which we completed on January 12, 2019.
